Police officer among nine held for DUI in Port of Spain

Nine peo­ple, in­clud­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer and a fire of­fi­cer, were ar­rest­ed for dri­ving un­der the in­flu­ence dur­ing a po­lice ex­er­cise in Port of Spain ear­ly Sat­ur­day morn­ing.

The ar­rests were made be­tween mid­night and 4 a.m. dur­ing a DUI op­er­a­tion on Park Street.

The peo­ple ar­rest­ed range in age from 19 to 69. Their oc­cu­pa­tions in­clude a po­lice of­fi­cer, fire of­fi­cer, WASA tech­ni­cal of­fi­cer, en­gi­neer, bank em­ploy­ee, ven­dor, sales agent, cus­to­di­al work­er and pen­sion­er.

Po­lice said all nine were ar­rest­ed for hav­ing breath al­co­hol lev­els ex­ceed­ing the pre­scribed lim­it.

The op­er­a­tion was part of on­go­ing ef­forts to tar­get im­paired dri­ving in the Port of Spain Di­vi­sion.
