Student’s family in fear after deadly home invasion; cops rule robbery was motive

The fam­i­ly of a school­boy who was shot dead dur­ing a home in­va­sion in Mara­bel­la, is now liv­ing in fear as po­lice in­ves­ti­gate the killing.

Dead is Kr­is­han Khanai, who was gunned down at his fam­i­ly's Tram­line Road home late Thurs­day night. Two rel­a­tives, Kr­ish­na Khanai and Leela Pariag, were al­so shot and wound­ed dur­ing the at­tack.

A rel­a­tive, who re­quest­ed anonymi­ty out of fear for the fam­i­ly's safe­ty, de­clined to dis­cuss the in­ci­dent when con­tact­ed by Guardian Me­dia.

"We don't want to speak about it," the rel­a­tive said be­fore end­ing the con­ver­sa­tion.

Po­lice be­lieve rob­bery was the mo­tive for the dead­ly at­tack.

Ac­cord­ing to in­ves­ti­ga­tors, of­fi­cers re­spond­ed to re­ports of loud ex­plo­sions around 11.41 pm and ar­rived at a wood­en house along Tram­line Road, where they found the school­boy ly­ing in a pool of blood with gun­shot wounds.

The two oth­er oc­cu­pants were al­so dis­cov­ered suf­fer­ing from gun­shot in­juries and were tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal for treat­ment.

Crime Scene In­ves­ti­ga­tors processed the scene and re­cov­ered three spent 9mm shell cas­ings with the mark­ings "Luger" and "11".

The Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer lat­er pro­nounced the teenag­er dead and or­dered the re­moval of the body to the San Fer­nan­do Mor­tu­ary pend­ing a post-mortem ex­am­i­na­tion.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors be­lieve rob­bery is the mo­tive.

Po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
