Police seize three firearms, cannabis in anti-crime exercises

One man was ar­rest­ed and three firearms, along with quan­ti­ties of am­mu­ni­tion and cannabis, were seized dur­ing a se­ries of an­ti-crime ex­er­cis­es con­duct­ed by po­lice in the North-East­ern and South-West­ern Di­vi­sions this week.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, of­fi­cers at­tached to the North-East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force and the Ca­nine Unit car­ried out co­or­di­nat­ed op­er­a­tions be­tween 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Thurs­day with­in sev­er­al com­mu­ni­ties in the di­vi­sion.

Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers searched the homes of sev­er­al per­sons of in­ter­est, in­clud­ing the res­i­dence of a 58-year-old man along Ward Lane, El So­cor­ro. Po­lice said of­fi­cers dis­cov­ered a trans­par­ent bag con­tain­ing 138.7 grammes of cannabis dur­ing the search.

The sus­pect was cau­tioned and ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the find.

Po­lice lat­er moved to Bagatelle Ex­ten­sion, San Juan, where of­fi­cers re­port­ed­ly ob­served a man flee­ing the area af­ter notic­ing the po­lice pres­ence. Al­though the sus­pect es­caped, of­fi­cers searched the sur­round­ing dis­trict and dis­cov­ered a firearm fit­ted with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 21 rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion.

Fur­ther search­es in the area led of­fi­cers to a black bag con­tain­ing a Beretta pis­tol fit­ted with a mag­a­zine loaded with 10 rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion.

Mean­while, in a sep­a­rate ex­er­cise in the South West­ern Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers at­tached to the San­ta Flo­ra dis­trict con­duct­ed an in­tel­li­gence-led op­er­a­tion around 11:30 p.m. on Wednes­day along Oil­field Road, Pa­lo Seco.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers searched a bam­boo patch af­ter act­ing on in­for­ma­tion re­ceived. Dur­ing the ex­er­cise, of­fi­cers al­leged­ly dis­cov­ered a black plas­tic bag con­tain­ing a sil­ver Beretta pis­tol fit­ted with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing sev­en rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion, along with 430 grammes of cannabis.

The firearms, am­mu­ni­tion and nar­cotics were seized and tak­en to the San­ta Flo­ra Po­lice Sta­tion as in­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tin­ue.
