A 41-year-old woman is in police custody after officers held her in connection with a stolen car in Arouca on Thursday.

Police said officers of the Transit Police Unit visited an open savannah in Arouca where they saw a dark grey Kia Nero believed to have been stolen.

Guardian Media Ltd was told officers positioned vehicles around the nearby area to prevent any escape.

While in the area, officers noticed a woman approaching the car. She opened it, got in and tried to drive off.

Officers of the TPU intercepted the vehicle and arrested the woman, while officers of the North-Central Division Task Force searched nearby areas for a second suspect, who remained at large up to Friday.

Police said the woman, who is known to police, was arrested and placed in the custody of officers from the St Clair CID.

Sources said the car was stolen at gunpoint in Maraval on March 21 and was found bearing false licence plates.

The exercise was supervised by Supt Robert Joseph and Sgt Virgil and involved members of the TPU Task Force
