An inquest has been ordered into the death of 26-year-old Sea Lots resident Edwin “Teo” Richardson, who died after being stabbed on August 26.
Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Anju Bhola ordered the inquest on Tuesday, September 8.
A male suspect who was detained in connection with Richardson’s death was also ordered released pending the findings of the inquest.
Richardson, of Production Avenue, Sea Lots, was admitted to the Port of Spain General Hospital on August 26 suffering from stab wounds. He died at the hospital the same day.
Richardson was reportedly stabbed multiple times by a 38-year-old man during an alleged argument around 7 am.
Following the stabbing, the suspect was reportedly shot by an unknown assailant after allegedly chasing another man with the intention of attacking him. Both men were taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital.
Richardson was pronounced dead at 7.55 am, while the suspect underwent emergency treatment.
Richardson’s death had prompted relatives and community elders to appeal for calm and for residents to avoid retaliatory violence.
His father, Edwin Richardson Sr, had urged people to walk away from disputes before they escalated into violence.
The Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region One, supervised the investigation. The probe was overseen by ASP (Ag.) Ramjag, Insp (Ag.) Stanislaus, Insp (Ag.) Seecharan and PC Felix, together with other agencies.
PC Moonsammy of HBI Region One is the complainant in the matter.
