Inquest ordered into August 26 Sea Lots killing

An in­quest has been or­dered in­to the death of 26-year-old Sea Lots res­i­dent Ed­win “Teo” Richard­son, who died af­ter be­ing stabbed on Au­gust 26.

As­sis­tant Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions An­ju Bho­la or­dered the in­quest on Tues­day, Sep­tem­ber 8.

A male sus­pect who was de­tained in con­nec­tion with Richard­son’s death was al­so or­dered re­leased pend­ing the find­ings of the in­quest.

Richard­son, of Pro­duc­tion Av­enue, Sea Lots, was ad­mit­ted to the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal on Au­gust 26 suf­fer­ing from stab wounds. He died at the hos­pi­tal the same day.

Richard­son was re­port­ed­ly stabbed mul­ti­ple times by a 38-year-old man dur­ing an al­leged ar­gu­ment around 7 am.

Fol­low­ing the stab­bing, the sus­pect was re­port­ed­ly shot by an un­known as­sailant af­ter al­leged­ly chas­ing an­oth­er man with the in­ten­tion of at­tack­ing him. Both men were tak­en to the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal.

Richard­son was pro­nounced dead at 7.55 am, while the sus­pect un­der­went emer­gency treat­ment.

Richard­son’s death had prompt­ed rel­a­tives and com­mu­ni­ty el­ders to ap­peal for calm and for res­i­dents to avoid re­tal­ia­to­ry vi­o­lence.

His fa­ther, Ed­win Richard­son Sr, had urged peo­ple to walk away from dis­putes be­fore they es­ca­lat­ed in­to vi­o­lence.

The Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions, Re­gion One, su­per­vised the in­ves­ti­ga­tion. The probe was over­seen by ASP (Ag.) Ram­jag, In­sp (Ag.) Stanis­laus, In­sp (Ag.) Seecha­ran and PC Fe­lix, to­geth­er with oth­er agen­cies.
