TTPS seizes firearm and ammunition in separate exercises

Po­lice ar­rest­ed one man and seized a firearm, a mag­a­zine and sev­er­al rounds of am­mu­ni­tion dur­ing in­tel­li­gence-led ex­er­cis­es in the Cen­tral, South­ern and East­ern Di­vi­sions over the past 24 hours.

Be­tween mid­night and 4am on Sat­ur­day, of­fi­cers of the South­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force con­duct­ed an Op­er­a­tion RES­OLUTE Shield ex­er­cise in the South­ern and Cen­tral Di­vi­sions.

Based on sur­veil­lance and in­tel­li­gence, of­fi­cers went to an apart­ment along the South­ern Main Road, Cal­i­for­nia, where they con­duct­ed a search.

A 34-year-old man was ar­rest­ed af­ter po­lice al­leged­ly found six rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion and a Smith & Wes­son mag­a­zine ca­pa­ble of hold­ing 17 rounds.

The op­er­a­tion was co­or­di­nat­ed by Snr Supt Hospedales, Supt Bertie, W/Supt Bridge­lal, Asp Pacheco, ASP Ram­sar­ran, ASP Chul­han and In­spec­tor Wilkin­son, and was su­per­vised by Sgt Singh and Cpl Heer­alal.

Ear­li­er, in the East­ern Di­vi­sion, of­fi­cers of the Cu­mu­to Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment and Cu­mu­to Charge Room con­duct­ed an in­tel­li­gence-led ex­er­cise be­tween 8.30pm on Fri­day and 1.30am on Sat­ur­day.

At about 10.30pm, the team re­ceived in­for­ma­tion which led them to Di­di­er Trace, Cu­mu­to.

Po­lice said they saw a man dressed in dark cloth­ing stand­ing along the north-east­ern side of the road­way in a bushy area.

When the man looked in the di­rec­tion of the pa­trol unit, he ran north­wards and dropped a clear plas­tic bag con­tain­ing sev­er­al ob­jects be­fore flee­ing in­to the bush.

A search of the area led to the dis­cov­ery of a trans­par­ent plas­tic bag con­tain­ing three rounds of .32 am­mu­ni­tion and a sil­ver-coloured .32 Spe­cial re­volver con­tain­ing two rounds of .32 am­mu­ni­tion.

The search con­tin­ued to­wards the east­ern side of a school in the di­rec­tion in which the man had fled, but nei­ther the man nor any fur­ther items were found.
