Desalcott shutdown to disrupt water supply in Central, South

Cus­tomers in parts of Cen­tral and South Trinidad are ex­pect­ed to ex­pe­ri­ence dis­rup­tions to their wa­ter sup­ply as the Point Lisas De­sali­na­tion Plant un­der­goes its an­nu­al main­te­nance shut­down.

The Wa­ter and Sew­er­age Au­thor­i­ty (WASA) said the shut­down, which be­gan at noon on Mon­day, Sep­tem­ber 28, is sched­uled to con­tin­ue un­til noon on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 4.

The plant, op­er­at­ed by the De­sali­na­tion Com­pa­ny of Trinidad and To­ba­go (De­sal­cott), sup­plies WASA with 40 mil­lion gal­lons of wa­ter dai­ly, sup­port­ing the Point Lisas In­dus­tri­al Es­tate and sup­ple­ment­ing sup­plies to parts of Cen­tral and south-west Trinidad.

WASA said cus­tomers nor­mal­ly sup­plied or sup­port­ed by the plant could ex­pe­ri­ence in­ter­rup­tions or changes to their reg­u­lar wa­ter sup­ply dur­ing the main­te­nance pe­ri­od.

De­sal­cott has ad­vised that wa­ter de­liv­er­ies to WASA are ex­pect­ed to re­sume at noon on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 4. How­ev­er, the restora­tion of the full con­tract­ed sup­ply is ex­pect­ed to take be­tween 24 and 48 hours.

Among the ar­eas like­ly to be af­fect­ed are Ca­roni, Cunu­pia, Ch­agua­nas, Cou­va, Point Lisas, Cal­i­for­nia, Clax­ton Bay, Gas­par­il­lo, Mara­bel­la and San Fer­nan­do.

Oth­er af­fect­ed com­mu­ni­ties may in­clude Vista­bel­la, Pleas­antville, Palmiste, La Ro­maine, South Oropouche, Rousil­lac, Fyz­abad, Siparia, Debe and San Fran­cique.

Parts of La Brea and sev­er­al com­mu­ni­ties in south Trinidad, in­clud­ing De Gannes Vil­lage, Quar­ry Vil­lage, Syne Vil­lage and Lowkie Trace, may al­so ex­pe­ri­ence dis­rup­tions.

WASA said cus­tomers re­quir­ing truck-borne wa­ter sup­plies or fur­ther as­sis­tance can con­tact its Cus­tomer Con­tact Cen­tre toll-free at 800-4420 or 800-4426.

Cus­tomers can al­so ac­cess the au­thor­i­ty’s ser­vices through its mo­bile ap­pli­ca­tion or on­line cus­tomer por­tal.

The au­thor­i­ty apol­o­gised for the in­con­ve­nience and ap­pealed to cus­tomers for pa­tience and un­der­stand­ing while the main­te­nance work is com­plet­ed.
