Political differences were set aside as Tobago politicians publicly expressed support for Secretary of Community Development and Social Protection Ian Pollard, who remains hospitalised.

Leader of the People’s National Movement Tobago Council, Shamfa Cudjoe-Lewis, issued a statement offering well wishes to Pollard and his family during what she described as a difficult period.

Cudjoe-Lewis said she was saddened to learn of Pollard’s hospitalisation and stressed that moments such as these serve as a reminder that health, family and personal well-being are more important than politics.

She extended sincere wishes for Pollard’s recovery and expressed hope that he receives the care, strength and support needed to regain his health. Cudjoe-Lewis added that her thoughts and prayers were with Pollard and his loved ones and said she looked forward to hearing positive news about his condition in the days ahead.

Earlier on Thursday, the Office of the Chief Secretary confirmed that Ian Pollard had been warded at St Clair Medical Centre for the past week. No details were provided on the nature of his illness.

Chief Secretary Farley Augustine, speaking on behalf of the Tobago House of Assembly, also conveyed best wishes for Pollard’s full and speedy recovery.

Augustine assured the public that the operations of the division remain ongoing under his leadership, with support from Assistant Secretary Ackel Franklyn.

The Chief Secretary also appealed for respect for Pollard’s privacy and that of his family as he continues receiving medical care.
