Police are working to confirm the identity of burnt skeletal remains discovered off a track in Bon Air on Sunday afternoon.
Officers of the North-Central Division responded to a call for assistance from volunteers of the Hunters Search and Rescue Team in the vicinity of Zircon Circular.
They were led about a quarter mile off the road onto a dirt track, where the remains were found in a drainage area.
A district medical officer visited the scene and ordered that the remains be taken to the Forensic Science Centre, Long Circular, for further analysis.
Investigators said the skull, parts of the arms below the elbow and parts of the legs below the knee were not found.
Officers of the Region II Homicide Bureau are continuing enquiries.
