Ameen extends condolences on officer’s passing

The Min­istry of Rur­al De­vel­op­ment and Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment (MoRDLG) has ex­pressed deep sor­row fol­low­ing the killing of a Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice of­fi­cer in the line of du­ty at the San Fer­nan­do Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice Sta­tion on Sun­day.

In a state­ment is­sued, the Min­istry con­firmed that the of­fi­cer was on ac­tive du­ty at the time of the in­ci­dent. How­ev­er, de­tails sur­round­ing the cir­cum­stances re­main un­clear as in­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing.

Min­is­ter of Rur­al De­vel­op­ment and Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment, Khadi­jah Ameen, is await­ing a full re­port from the As­sis­tant Com­mis­sion­er with re­spon­si­bil­i­ty for Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice be­fore mak­ing any fur­ther pub­lic com­ment.

Ameen ex­tend­ed con­do­lences to the fam­i­ly, loved ones, and col­leagues of the de­ceased of­fi­cer, de­scrib­ing the loss as a painful one for the Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice Ser­vice. The Min­istry al­so con­veyed sym­pa­thies to the wider Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice fra­ter­ni­ty, not­ing the of­fi­cer died while serv­ing the pub­lic.

Au­thor­i­ties re­main on the scene as ef­forts con­tin­ue to piece to­geth­er the se­quence of events lead­ing up to the fa­tal in­ci­dent.

The Min­is­ter has urged the me­dia and mem­bers of the pub­lic to re­frain from spec­u­la­tion and al­low in­ves­ti­ga­tors to car­ry out their work to en­sure an ac­cu­rate ac­count is es­tab­lished.

The Min­istry not­ed that the in­ci­dent un­der­scores the dan­gers faced dai­ly by Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice of­fi­cers in the ex­e­cu­tion of their du­ties, as it reaf­firmed its com­mit­ment to pro­vid­ing up­dates as more in­for­ma­tion be­comes avail­able.
