Appeal Court orders Hadeeds bereleased; placed on house arrest

Do­minic and Genevieve Hadeed have been or­dered to be im­me­di­ate­ly re­leased by the court af­ter spend­ing 22 days in cus­tody since their ar­rest on June 24.

In a vir­tu­al rul­ing de­liv­ered by Jus­tices of Ap­peal Pe­ter Ra­jku­mar, Mi­ra Dean-Ar­mor­er and Joan Charles a short while ago, the cou­ple was placed un­der house ar­rest and must re­main at their home on Pine Av­enue, Bayshore, West­moor­ings.

In ad­di­tion to be­ing fit­ted with an­kle mon­i­tors, the cou­ple must sur­ren­der their pass­ports and oth­er trav­el doc­u­ments, all firearms in their pos­ses­sion, and all com­mu­ni­ca­tion de­vices.

They are not to com­mu­ni­cate with per­sons out­side the ad­dress, ei­ther di­rect­ly or in­di­rect­ly, with­out the pri­or ap­proval of the Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice, and they are to re­main at their home on Pine Av­enue and must not at­tempt to leave with­out the Com­mis­sion­er’s per­mis­sion.

They are al­so not per­mit­ted to have vis­i­tors at the ad­dress with­out the pri­or ap­proval of the Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice. On­ly ap­proved med­ical and le­gal prac­ti­tion­ers and/or care­givers may en­ter the prop­er­ty.

They must al­low au­tho­rised mem­bers of the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice to en­ter the premis­es at rea­son­able times to con­duct in­spec­tions and con­firm com­pli­ance with the con­di­tions. Should ei­ther par­ty breach any of the con­di­tions, he or she will be li­able to de­ten­tion un­der the re­spec­tive Pre­ven­tive De­ten­tion Or­ders.

The re­spon­dents, in­clud­ing Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Al­lis­ter Gue­var­ro, Home­land Se­cu­ri­ty Min­is­ter Roger Alexan­der, At­tor­ney Gen­er­al John Je­re­mie and PC El­don Cal­liste, are at lib­er­ty, up­on de­liv­ery of the judg­ment, to in­di­cate what, if any, fur­ther con­di­tions should be im­posed.

The Hadeeds in­di­cat­ed that they are pre­pared to be fit­ted with elec­tron­ic mon­i­tor­ing de­vices to record their move­ments.
