15 men arrested over outstanding maintenance payments

Fif­teen men have been ar­rest­ed in sep­a­rate po­lice ex­er­cis­es in San­gre Grande, Ari­ma and San Rafael for out­stand­ing court-or­dered main­te­nance pay­ments.

Po­lice said the ar­rests were made be­tween Thurs­day and Fri­day dur­ing war­rant-ex­e­cu­tion ex­er­cis­es tar­get­ing men who had failed to meet their le­gal oblig­a­tions.

In San­gre Grande, a 24-hour ex­er­cise which be­gan at 9 am on Oc­to­ber 8 re­sult­ed in the ex­e­cu­tion of 16 war­rants and the ar­rest of 12 men.

Ten men, aged 31 to 54, were held on out­stand­ing af­fil­i­a­tion war­rants. An­oth­er man, aged 45, was ar­rest­ed for fail­ing to ap­pear in court in an out­stand­ing mat­ter, while a fur­ther sus­pect was held for fail­ing to pay a court-or­dered fine.

The ex­er­cise was co-or­di­nat­ed by Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Et­ti­enne and In­spec­tor Gadar, su­per­vised by Act­ing Sergeant Bab­wah, and in­volved po­lice and prison of­fi­cers.

Mean­while, a sep­a­rate ex­er­cise in Ari­ma and San Rafael be­tween 11 pm on Oc­to­ber 8 and 3 am on Oc­to­ber 9 re­sult­ed in the ex­e­cu­tion of 10 af­fil­i­a­tion war­rants against five men.

The men, aged 23 to 44, were ar­rest­ed in com­mu­ni­ties in­clud­ing Cara­po, Mal­abar and Sama­roo Vil­lage. Their out­stand­ing pay­ments to­talled $40,500, with in­di­vid­ual amounts rang­ing from $1,400 to $18,000.

A 40-year-old Ari­ma man was al­so ar­rest­ed on a war­rant for fail­ing to pay a $2,500 fine re­lat­ing to a drug-traf­fick­ing of­fence.

The Ari­ma and San Rafael ex­er­cise was spear­head­ed by Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Frank and Act­ing Su­per­in­ten­dent McKen­zie, with of­fi­cers from the Ari­ma war­rant staff and the North­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force par­tic­i­pat­ing.

The po­lice ex­er­cis­es formed part of ef­forts to ex­e­cute out­stand­ing war­rants and en­force court or­ders.
