Police are investigating four separate home invasions reported in Freeport, Talparo, Princes Town and St Mary’s between Saturday and Monday.
In Freeport, 68-year-old Dhanpatie Singh was inside her home at Calcutta #4 around 2:15 p.m. on Monday when three men, all dressed in dark clothing, entered and announced a robbery.
One of the men was armed with a cutlass.
The men escaped with $1,000 in cash and a quantity of gold jewellery.
Police said extensive investigations by the Freeport CID led to the arrest of a man identified as Prince Legere, 23, of Calcutta Settlement, Freeport.
In Talparo, 89-year-old Gabriel Edwards was at his home at Joseph Lewis Trace around 10 a.m. on Monday when four masked men entered through a western-side door.
Police said Edwards was beaten and robbed of a Remington 12-gauge shotgun, 24 rounds of ammunition, $5,000 in cash and two cellphones.
The men escaped by running west along the road.
In Princes Town, a 33-year-old man was reportedly tied up inside his home after being confronted by an intruder early Sunday morning.
Police said Adrian John secured his home at St Julien Village around 10 p.m. on Saturday and went to bed. Around 5 a.m. Sunday, he was accosted in his bedroom by a man wearing a white vest and dark pants.
The man allegedly tied John’s hands and feet before escaping.
John later freed himself and discovered that $1,500 in cash was missing from the house.
And in St Mary’s, two residents were confronted inside their home by two men who were allegedly looking for grocery items they believed had been stolen by one of the residents’ sons.
Police said the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at Gomez Trace, St Mary’s Village, Moruga Road.
One suspect was armed with an iron rod while the other had a glass bottle. The men reportedly followed one of the victims through the house as she showed them that the items were not there.
They then escaped through the front door and entered a vehicle parked nearby.
Police said one suspect fitting the description of the man armed with the iron rod was subsequently arrested.
Investigations into all four incidents are continuing.
