Two charged over $1.1M Tobago drug haul

Two men ap­peared be­fore a To­ba­go Mag­is­trate on Fri­day charged with traf­fick­ing more than $1 mil­lion worth of mar­i­jua­na and pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion.

Raiz Nep­tune and Shevonne Lu­cas of Young Street, Canaan, To­ba­go, ap­peared be­fore Mas­ter Sha­bana Sha­hon charged with traf­fick­ing in 33.2 kilo­grammes of mar­i­jua­na and pos­ses­sion of 100 rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion.

The items were al­leged­ly found by the po­lice in a house on Au­gust 29 at Young Street, Canaan.

The street val­ue of the drugs was es­ti­mat­ed at $1,105,800. Oth­er items, in­clud­ing iden­ti­fi­ca­tion doc­u­ments, bank doc­u­ments, scales, bags and cling wrap, were seized by the po­lice.

Charges were laid by PC Kennedy of the Crown Point Po­lice Sta­tion.

The ac­cused were rep­re­sent­ed by at­tor­ney Roarke Ben­jamin.

TTPS pros­e­cu­tor Sgt Rea­gan Ra­manan, who is al­so an at­tor­ney, ob­ject­ed to bail be­ing grant­ed to Nep­tune, who has pre­vi­ous mat­ters be­fore the court.

The court de­nied him bail and re­mand­ed him in­to cus­tody.

Lu­cas was grant­ed $450,000 bail with re­port­ing con­di­tions.

The mat­ter was ad­journed to next Feb­ru­ary for a Sta­tus Hear­ing. - Sascha Wil­son
