Mother of one shot dead on way to work

Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the mur­der of 30-year-old moth­er of one Shan­nel Lewis, of Bridge Road, Brook­lyn Set­tle­ment, San­gre Grande.

Po­lice said Lewis was am­bushed and shot in the head and ab­domen by a lone gun­man while she was walk­ing out home on the way to work around 8 am yes­ter­day. Vil­lagers al­so re­port­ed see­ing a white Nis­san March ve­hi­cle speed­ing off along Brook­lyn Road af­ter the at­tack.

Of­fi­cers from San­gre Grande CID and Task Force re­spond­ed to a trou­ble call around 8.30 am. On ar­rival, they found the woman ly­ing on the road, bleed­ing pro­fuse­ly from gun­shot wounds. Para­medics from San­gre Grande at­tached to EHS ar­rived on scene and told po­lice of­fi­cers she was still alive. She was placed in the am­bu­lance and rushed to San­gre Grande Hos­pi­tal, but suc­cumbed to her in­juries soon af­ter.

When Guardian Me­dia vis­it­ed the vic­tim’s home yes­ter­day, fam­i­ly mem­bers said her moth­er, Megan, was in no con­di­tion to speak.

Her un­cle, who asked that his name be with­held, said Shan­nel was a bright, in­tel­li­gent child who was a phys­i­cal in­struc­tor.

Shan­nel’s shoot­ing al­so sent shock­waves through­out the com­mu­ni­ty, as vil­lagers said they were puz­zled about why any­one would want to mur­der a young, in­tel­li­gent la­dy. She was de­scribed as “warm,” “friend­ly” and “re­spectable” young woman.

Close neigh­bours re­port­ed hear­ing two loud ex­plo­sions. They said Lewis usu­al­ly dri­ves her­self to work but was seen walk­ing as her ve­hi­cle was in the garage.

Po­lice said they had no mo­tive for the mur­der.

Vis­it­ing the scene were of­fi­cers from CID and Task Force and mem­bers of Homi­cide Arou­ca Re­gion 2.

Po­lice say they will be hop­ing to get CCTV footage to sup­port their in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
