Blue Waters Products Ltd executive chairman Dominic Hadeed returned to the company’s Orange Grove, Trincity headquarters yesterday for the first time since his release from preventive detention, receiving an emotional reception from employees who applauded, embraced him and welcomed him back to work.
Hadeed arrived at the company’s headquarters at about 10.30 am and remained on the compound until around 2 pm, meeting with employees from every department, as well as the company’s executive team.
A video circulating on social media captured the moment Hadeed entered the building, with staff breaking into applause before lining up to hug him. Many employees appeared visibly emotional as they greeted their longtime executive chairman.
“I missed you all,” Hadeed told employees before moving through the facility, stopping to shake hands and embrace workers.
He also expressed gratitude to staff for their unwavering support throughout his detention.
Addressing employees, Hadeed reiterated his innocence, telling them, “I’ve never even hit another person, much less to consider any conspiracy.”
In one moment captured on the video, an employee could be heard remarking that Hadeed had “got small,” an apparent reference to the noticeable weight he appeared to have lost during his detention at the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca.
Two employees and a supervisor, who asked not to be identified because they were not authorised to speak publicly, yesterday told the Guardian Media there was a buzz across the compound after management informed staff earlier in the morning that Hadeed would be returning to work.
One employee said there were tears of joy as he walked through the doors.
“We’re just happy to have him back. The court matter is still before the courts, but we’re relieved he has been released and is back doing what he loves, helping to build Blue Waters,” the employee said.
Another employee said it was encouraging to see Hadeed smiling and taking the time to meet with workers across the organisation.
The worker said Hadeed appeared thinner than before but remained upbeat throughout the visit, spending several hours thanking staff and speaking with employees from different sections of the business.
Hadeed and his wife, Genevieve, were arrested by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service on June 24 as part of an investigation into an alleged plot to assassinate Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and senior members of her Government.
Preventative Detention Orders (PDOs) were issued against the couple on June 27 under the Emergency Powers Regulations, 2026, arising from the ongoing State of Emergency.
Last week, however, Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander revoked the PDO, saying the couple’s continued detention was no longer proportionate while the criminal investigation continues.
The Hadeeds, who have not been charged, have denied any wrongdoing, and legal proceedings in the matter are continuing.
