Gun, ammunition and cannabis seized in Valencia anti-crime exercise

Po­lice seized a firearm, two rounds of .45-cal­i­bre am­mu­ni­tion and ap­prox­i­mate­ly 500 grammes of cannabis dur­ing an in­tel­li­gence-led an­ti-crime ex­er­cise in Va­len­cia on Mon­day night.

The op­er­a­tion, con­duct­ed by of­fi­cers at­tached to the Deputy Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Op­er­a­tions Team in the East­ern Di­vi­sion, took place be­tween 7 pm and 11.30 pm on Au­gust 3.

Ac­cord­ing to the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice (TTPS), of­fi­cers act­ed on in­tel­li­gence that il­le­gal firearms had been con­cealed in­side va­cant fruit stalls along the East­ern Main Road, Va­len­cia.

Around 10.15 pm, of­fi­cers searched a shed near Pi­lot Farm Road, where they found a white Sty­ro­foam crate con­tain­ing a firearm, two rounds of .45-cal­i­bre am­mu­ni­tion and a brown rec­tan­gu­lar pack­age con­tain­ing ap­prox­i­mate­ly 500 grammes of cannabis.

The items were seized and tak­en to the Ari­ma Po­lice Sta­tion, where they were pho­tographed and processed.

No ar­rests were re­port­ed up to the time of the re­lease.

Po­lice said the ex­er­cise formed part of on­go­ing in­tel­li­gence-dri­ven op­er­a­tions tar­get­ing il­le­gal firearms and nar­cotics in the East­ern Di­vi­sion.

The op­er­a­tion was sanc­tioned by Deputy Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Suzette Mar­tin and di­rect­ed by As­sis­tant Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Hazel Ram­nar­ine. Cor­po­ral Tay­lor, Po­lice Con­sta­ble Dyette, Po­lice Con­sta­ble Ed­wards, Po­lice Con­sta­ble White and Po­lice Con­sta­ble Jen­nings con­duct­ed the field ex­er­cise.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing as po­lice work to de­ter­mine who con­cealed the firearm, am­mu­ni­tion and cannabis at the lo­ca­tion.

The TTPS has re­peat­ed­ly urged mem­bers of the pub­lic to pro­vide in­for­ma­tion on il­le­gal firearms and crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ty, not­ing that in­tel­li­gence from cit­i­zens plays an im­por­tant role in an­ti-crime op­er­a­tions.
