Citi employees traded their desks for paintbrushes as the financial institution marked Global Community Day 2026 with a hands-on community project to improve the lives of residents at the Eternal Light Community – Joshua House.

In a news release, Citi said employees, their families and community partners came together to repaint the interior of the residential facility as part of the company's annual global volunteer initiative.

The project was designed to improve the living environment for residents by creating a brighter, safer and more welcoming space while reinforcing Citi's commitment to community development.

Citi Trinidad & Tobago Country Officer Mitchell De Silva said Global Community Day reflects the institution's belief that stronger communities are built when people work together.

"In Trinidad & Tobago, we are proud to work alongside our employees, families, and community partners to support initiatives that promote opportunity, strengthen local organizations, and contribute to the long-term well-being of the people and communities we serve," De Silva said.

Global Community Day is Citi's worldwide volunteer programme that brings together employees, alumni, family members and friends to participate in community service projects in the countries where the bank operates.

This year marks the 21st anniversary of the initiative, which began in 2006 to encourage employees to give back through volunteerism. Citi said the programme has become a key part of its corporate culture, helping to strengthen relationships with communities while encouraging teamwork among employees.

The company said the Joshua House project reflects its wider commitment to supporting organisations that make a tangible difference in people's lives and to investing in initiatives that create lasting social impact.

De Silva said meaningful partnerships remain critical to building stronger communities.

"At Citi, we recognize that creating lasting impact requires collaboration and a shared commitment to community development. Through Global Community Day, we are honoured to support meaningful projects that address local needs, inspire positive change, and reinforce our commitment to helping build a more inclusive and resilient Trinidad & Tobago," he added.
