The woman who was knocked down along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway in Aranguez on Monday morning has now been identified as a 74-year-old Santa Cruz resident, police said.

Police identified the woman as Ephrem Mary Pereira of Cantaro Village.

Police reported that the driver of a brown Toyota Hilux was driving along the westbound lane of the highway just after 5 am when he noticed vehicles ahead of him swerving as if to avoid something.

The driver reportedly collided with Pereira before pulling over near Don Miguel Extension to render assistance.

The incident was reported to police, who arrived at the scene with a district medical officer, who declared Pereira dead.

Police said the 66-year-old driver was cautioned for intended prosecution, and his vehicle was towed to the Barataria Police Station.
