Couva man held with firearms and ammunition

A 41-year-old man was ar­rest­ed and two firearms and quan­ti­ties of am­mu­ni­tion were seized dur­ing an Op­er­a­tion Steady Guard ex­er­cise in the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion on Mon­day.

Po­lice said the ex­er­cise took place be­tween 3 pm and 6 pm and in­clud­ed of­fi­cers of the West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force.

Of­fi­cers went to Cal­cut­ta Road, Cou­va, where they searched the home of the sus­pect. Po­lice re­port­ed that noth­ing il­le­gal was found in­side the house.

A search was then car­ried out on a rental ve­hi­cle on the prop­er­ty. Dur­ing that search, of­fi­cers found two Glock pis­tols, five mag­a­zines and a quan­ti­ty of as­sort­ed am­mu­ni­tion. The items were found on the floor of the front pas­sen­ger seat of the ve­hi­cle.

The sus­pect was present at the time of the search and was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the finds.

Po­lice said the ex­er­cise was con­duct­ed un­der the au­thor­i­ty of Snr. Supt. Williams and led by In­sp. Grant.

The sus­pect re­mains in cus­tody as in­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tin­ue.

Po­lice have not re­leased fur­ther de­tails on charges.

The Cen­tral Di­vi­sion con­tin­ues op­er­a­tions aimed at find­ing firearms and am­mu­ni­tion.

Po­lice said op­er­a­tions will con­tin­ue in ar­eas across the di­vi­sion.
