A 41-year-old man was arrested and two firearms and quantities of ammunition were seized during an Operation Steady Guard exercise in the Central Division on Monday.
Police said the exercise took place between 3 pm and 6 pm and included officers of the Western Division Task Force.
Officers went to Calcutta Road, Couva, where they searched the home of the suspect. Police reported that nothing illegal was found inside the house.
A search was then carried out on a rental vehicle on the property. During that search, officers found two Glock pistols, five magazines and a quantity of assorted ammunition. The items were found on the floor of the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
The suspect was present at the time of the search and was arrested in connection with the finds.
Police said the exercise was conducted under the authority of Snr. Supt. Williams and led by Insp. Grant.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
Police have not released further details on charges.
The Central Division continues operations aimed at finding firearms and ammunition.
Police said operations will continue in areas across the division.
