2.2kg of cannabis seized in Port-of-Spain

Po­lice seized ap­prox­i­mate­ly 2.2 kilo­grammes of cannabis dur­ing an an­ti-crime op­er­a­tion in Port-of-Spain on Tues­day.

The seizure was made dur­ing Op­er­a­tion B.L.A.S.T., which was con­duct­ed be­tween 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. by of­fi­cers at­tached to sev­er­al po­lice units.

The op­er­a­tion was spear­head­ed by ACP Hazel, Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Ram­nar­ine, Su­per­in­ten­dent Ram­sook and ASP Singh, and co­or­di­nat­ed by In­spec­tor Ed­wards and Sergeant Adams. Per­son­nel from Char­ford Court, Dun­can Street Post and the Ca­nine Unit al­so par­tic­i­pat­ed.

Around 1:45 p.m., of­fi­cers searched an aban­doned apart­ment at Harpe Place, East Dry Riv­er, where they found a black plas­tic bag con­tain­ing three pack­ets of plant ma­te­r­i­al re­sem­bling cannabis.

The ma­te­r­i­al was tak­en to the Besson Street Po­lice Sta­tion and weighed 862 grammes.

About 30 min­utes lat­er, at Peo­ple's Mall on Hen­ry Street, PC Wal­lace re­port­ed­ly no­ticed a black plas­tic bag lodged be­tween two booths.

Up­on re­triev­ing the bag, of­fi­cers found sev­er­al plas­tic bags and small zip-lock bags con­tain­ing plant ma­te­r­i­al re­sem­bling cannabis. The con­tents weighed 680 grammes.

At about 3 p.m., of­fi­cers con­duct­ed a search of a bushy area at Jack­son Place, East Dry Riv­er.

Dur­ing that search, PC Subero found a black plas­tic bag con­tain­ing loose plant ma­te­r­i­al and sev­er­al pack­ets con­tain­ing sim­i­lar ma­te­r­i­al. The items weighed 635 grammes.

Po­lice said the com­bined weight of the ma­te­r­i­al seized from the three lo­ca­tions was ap­prox­i­mate­ly 2.2 kilo­grammes.

The op­er­a­tion al­so in­volved the as­sis­tance of K9 Gi­no and mem­bers of the Ca­nine Unit.

Ac­cord­ing to the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice, the op­er­a­tion con­clud­ed with­out in­ci­dent, while the ar­eas mon­i­tored were oth­er­wise re­port­ed to be qui­et and reg­u­lar.

No ar­rests were re­port­ed in con­nec­tion with the seizures.
