Two arrested after ammunition seized in Couva

Two men were ar­rest­ed af­ter po­lice al­leged­ly found am­mu­ni­tion and sus­pect­ed house-break­ing im­ple­ments dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise in the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion ear­ly Tues­day.

The ar­rests were made dur­ing Op­er­a­tion R.E.S.O.L.U.T.E., which was con­duct­ed be­tween 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. by of­fi­cers of the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Task Force – Area South.

Ac­cord­ing to the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice, of­fi­cers re­spond­ed to in­tel­li­gence at around 2.30 a.m. con­cern­ing a white Nis­san AD Wag­on dis­play­ing two dif­fer­ent reg­is­tra­tion num­bers. The ve­hi­cle had re­port­ed­ly crashed in­to a drain along Balchan Street, Union Vil­lage, Cou­va.

Po­lice said two masked men were seen run­ning from the ve­hi­cle be­fore of­fi­cers re­spond­ed and lo­cat­ed two sus­pects match­ing the de­scrip­tions pro­vid­ed.

A search of the men al­leged­ly re­sult­ed in the dis­cov­ery of the ve­hi­cle's keys, a bal­a­cla­va and a ban­dana.

Of­fi­cers then searched the ve­hi­cle and al­leged­ly found sev­en rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion along with an as­sort­ment of tools sus­pect­ed to have been in­tend­ed for use in house-break­ing of­fences.

The two sus­pects were ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the Cou­va Po­lice Sta­tion for fur­ther en­quiries.

The op­er­a­tion was co­or­di­nat­ed by Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Bhag­wan­deen, Su­per­in­ten­dent Frank and In­spec­tor Ram­per­sad, and led by Sgt Samuel and Act­ing Cpl Dun­can. It al­so in­volved rov­ing road­blocks and mo­bile pa­trols across com­mu­ni­ties in­clud­ing Carlsen Field, Or­ange Field Road, Brick­field, Rail­way Road in Cou­va, Grieg Street, Bal­main, Bho­lai Trace East, Wa­ter­loo Road and Dow Vil­lage, Cal­i­for­nia.

Coastal pa­trols were al­so car­ried out in Car­li Bay, Brick­field Vil­lage, Or­ange Val­ley and Clax­ton Bay as part of the ex­er­cise aimed at dis­rupt­ing crim­i­nal ac­tiv­i­ty in the di­vi­sion.
