SATT elects new board

The Su­per­mar­ket As­so­ci­a­tion of Trinidad and To­ba­go (SATT) has elect­ed a new Board of Di­rec­tors to serve for the 2026–2028 term, with Kevin Kissoon of Tru Valu Su­per­mar­kets tak­ing over as pres­i­dent.

The elec­tion took place dur­ing the as­so­ci­a­tion’s An­nu­al Gen­er­al Meet­ing at Val­park Chi­nese Restau­rant, Val­park Shop­ping Plaza, More­quito Av­enue.

Kissoon will lead the as­so­ci­a­tion as it fo­cus­es on ad­vo­ca­cy, in­dus­try de­vel­op­ment and com­mu­ni­ty en­gage­ment over the next two years.

He brings more than 20 years of ex­pe­ri­ence in re­tail, sup­ply chain man­age­ment, pro­cure­ment and com­mer­cial op­er­a­tions to the po­si­tion. He al­so holds an MBA and pre­vi­ous­ly served as SATT’s vice-pres­i­dent of projects.

In that role, Kissoon de­vel­oped an un­der­stand­ing of the as­so­ci­a­tion’s mem­ber­ship and the is­sues af­fect­ing the su­per­mar­ket in­dus­try.

Ac­cord­ing to SATT, his pro­fes­sion­al ca­reer has al­so in­clud­ed a fo­cus on cus­tomer en­gage­ment, peo­ple de­vel­op­ment and part­ner­ships across the sup­ply chain.

The as­so­ci­a­tion said he has al­so sup­port­ed op­por­tu­ni­ties for small and medi­um-sized en­ter­pris­es and fos­tered re­la­tion­ships across the wider re­tail sec­tor.

The new ex­ec­u­tive com­mit­tee in­cludes Aa­dithya Per­sad of Per­sad’s D Food King as vice-pres­i­dent of projects, while Shiv­an Ram­lo­gan of SS Per­sad Su­per­mar­kets will serve as vice-pres­i­dent of mar­ket­ing.

Bion­di Bachew of West Bees Su­per­mar­kets has been elect­ed trea­sur­er, with Ken­neth Veck of Massy Stores serv­ing as as­sis­tant trea­sur­er.

Na­dia Be­har­ry of Croisee Su­per­mar­kets will serve as sec­re­tary, while Bachew will al­so re­main on the board as im­me­di­ate past pres­i­dent.

Oth­er mem­bers of the 2026–2028 board are Heer­anand Ma­haraj of Bet­ter Deal Su­per­mar­kets, Cindy Kham­ram of JTA Su­per­mar­kets, Shiv­an Bhag­gan of San­ta Cruz Food Bas­ket, Taran Ma­haraj of Bones Price Cut­ters Su­per­mar­ket, Rav­il Sookhoo of MS Food­c­i­ty Su­per­mar­ket, Dil­lon Teelucks­ingh of Xtra Foods Su­per­mar­kets, Christo­pher Low of Sing Chong Su­per­mar­ket and Ravi Diptee of Plaza Com­plex Shop N Stop Su­per­mar­ket.

The new board is ex­pect­ed to rep­re­sent the in­ter­ests of su­per­mar­ket op­er­a­tors while en­gag­ing stake­hold­ers on is­sues af­fect­ing the re­tail in­dus­try
