Police have seized a high-powered firearm and 28 rounds of ammunition during an intelligence-led anti-crime operation in Morvant, as law enforcement continues efforts to disrupt the flow of illegal weapons.

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), officers attached to the North Eastern Division Task Force carried out Operation R.E.S.O.L.U.T.E. Shield between 4 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday in the Morvant district.

During the exercise, officers went to an abandoned wooden and concrete structure along Hillview Road, Mon Repos, where they conducted a search.

Police said the search led to the discovery of a Mini Draco pistol chambered in 7.62 x 39 calibre. The weapon was fitted with a magazine containing 28 rounds of 7.62 ammunition.

No arrests were reported in connection with the seizure up to Sunday evening, and investigators are continuing inquiries to determine who was in possession of the firearm and how it came to be at the location.

The operation was spearheaded by W/Snr Supt Guy-Alleyne and Supt Birch. It was coordinated by Ag/ASP Callender and Ag/Insp Ramsingh and supervised by Sgt Martin, together with officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force.

The seizure forms part of ongoing intelligence-driven policing operations aimed at removing illegal firearms from communities and disrupting criminal activity across the North Eastern Division.

Police have not indicated whether the weapon is linked to any ongoing investigations or recent violent incidents. The firearm and ammunition have been seized for further forensic examination as investigators work to establish their origin and any possible connection to criminal offences.
