Multiple accidents trigger traffic gridlock across Trinidad

At least four non-fa­tal car ac­ci­dents left mo­torists stuck in traf­fic for hours this morn­ing, forc­ing the tem­po­rary open­ing of the Pri­or­i­ty Bus Route.

From as ear­ly as five am, mo­torists were left stuck in bumper-to-bumper traf­fic along the Churchill Roo­sevelt head­ing west in­to Port of Spain. This was com­pound­ed by an­oth­er ac­ci­dent along the Uri­ah But­ler High­way, forc­ing those head­ing north to meet with the traf­fic al­ready head­ing west.

A third ac­ci­dent in Mal­oney wors­ened the grid­lock with dri­ver now stuck in traf­fic caused by the oth­er two ac­ci­dents that were now over­lap­ping.

Those head­ing in­to Port of Spain were not ex­empt­ed from the traf­fic af­ter an ac­ci­dent along the Diego Mar­tin High­way caused fur­ther de­lays.

Mo­torists and pas­sen­gers alike com­plained about the frus­tra­tion they felt hav­ing to en­dure the traf­fic; some ar­rive at their des­ti­na­tions two hours af­ter the reg­u­lar time.
