Woman, 26, killed in suspected murder suicide

Giselle Ougrah had ex­celled aca­d­e­m­i­cal­ly, grad­u­at­ing with ex­cel­lence from St Stephen’s Col­lege af­ter at­tain­ing 16 sub­jects at CSEC and CAPE.

But de­spite her achieve­ments, her fam­i­ly had warned her about be­com­ing in­volved with 26-year-old Stephon Kan­don.

On Fri­day, those fears took a trag­ic turn when Ougrah, 23, and Kan­don were found dead at an apart­ment along Sun­dars­ingh Trace, Pe­nal.

Ougrah, fond­ly known as “Pre­cious”, had left home to vis­it Kan­don, with whom she had re­port­ed­ly been in a re­la­tion­ship for about a year.

Pre­lim­i­nary in­for­ma­tion in­di­cates that Ougrah suf­fered mul­ti­ple stab wounds, while Kan­don was found hang­ing in­side the apart­ment. Her body was found on a mat­tress in­side the apart­ment.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors are treat­ing the deaths as a mur­der-sui­cide. Po­lice be­lieve Kan­don cut a rope from a near­by ham­mock and used it to hang him­self af­ter he mur­dered Ougrah. The re­la­tion­ship had been tu­mul­tuous, and Ougrah’s rel­a­tives had ad­vised her re­peat­ed­ly to end the re­la­tion­ship.

Rel­a­tives be­came con­cerned af­ter re­peat­ed at­tempts to con­tact her by tele­phone went unan­swered. She was sub­se­quent­ly found by her broth­er-in-law at the apart­ment.

Po­lice were called to the scene, where the bod­ies were dis­cov­ered.

De­spite her qual­i­fi­ca­tions, Ougrah, a hair­dress­er, worked at a pop­u­lar bar­ber­shop on Mar­ket Street, Princes Town.
