Modified gaming console used to hide pistol in police raid

A mod­i­fied PlaySta­tion gam­ing con­sole was al­leged­ly be­ing used to con­ceal a firearm and am­mu­ni­tion, lead­ing to the ar­rest of two peo­ple dur­ing in­tel­li­gence-led an­ti-crime op­er­a­tions car­ried out by po­lice in Cen­tral and West­ern Trinidad on Wednes­day.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice said of­fi­cers of the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Gang Unit and the West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force con­duct­ed sep­a­rate Op­er­a­tion R.E.S.O.L.U.T.E. Shield ex­er­cis­es that re­sult­ed in the seizure of a firearm, am­mu­ni­tion and cannabis.

Be­tween 1 p.m. and 9 p.m., of­fi­cers act­ing on in­tel­li­gence car­ried out en­quiries that led them to a res­i­dence at Tas­ka Av­enue, Cashew Gar­dens, Long­denville.

Po­lice con­duct­ed a search un­der Sec­tion 12 of the Emer­gency Pow­ers Reg­u­la­tions, 2026, and dis­cov­ered what ap­peared to be an un­usu­al­ly heavy black PlaySta­tion gam­ing con­sole. Fur­ther ex­am­i­na­tion al­leged­ly re­vealed the con­sole had been mod­i­fied to con­ceal a black and chrome Smith & Wes­son pis­tol fit­ted with a mag­a­zine con­tain­ing nine rounds of .40 cal­i­bre am­mu­ni­tion.

A 48-year-old man who lives at the ad­dress and his Latin Amer­i­can girl­friend were ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with the dis­cov­ery. Both re­mained in po­lice cus­tody up to the is­suance of the re­lease as in­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tin­ued.

The Cen­tral Di­vi­sion ex­er­cise was co­or­di­nat­ed by As­sis­tant Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Re­my, Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Bhag­wan­deen, As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent Her­nan­dez and Act­ing In­spec­tor Ram­per­sad, and su­per­vised by Act­ing Cor­po­ral Mo­hammed.

In a sep­a­rate ex­er­cise be­tween 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., of­fi­cers of the West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force searched a known drug block and an ad­ja­cent un­se­cured prop­er­ty at Sa­van­nah Road No. 1, Diego Mar­tin, com­mon­ly known as "The Gaza".

Po­lice said of­fi­cers found 94 rounds of .40 cal­i­bre am­mu­ni­tion hid­den in­side a half tank and four clear plas­tic bags con­tain­ing 104.7 grammes of cannabis.

That op­er­a­tion was sanc­tioned by Se­nior Su­per­in­ten­dent Williams, spear­head­ed by Su­per­in­ten­dent Mo­hammed and As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent Bur­ris, co­or­di­nat­ed by In­spec­tor Grant and Sergeant Do­minique, and su­per­vised by Cor­po­ral Robin­son, with as­sis­tance from of­fi­cers of the St. James Po­lice Sta­tion and the Ca­nine Unit.
