Jamaican national appears in court charged with D’Abadie murder

A 25-year-old Ja­maican na­tion­al has ap­peared be­fore the Crim­i­nal Court charged with the mur­der of a D'Abadie man whose body was found at his home last month.

Po­lice said De­an­dre Mark­land, of Hol­ly Be­taudi­er Av­enue, Phase 4-2, Mal­abar, Ari­ma, ap­peared be­fore Mas­ter Lisa Singh-Phillip in the North A Crim­i­nal Court on Mon­day. The mat­ter was ad­journed to Oc­to­ber 30 for a sta­tus hear­ing.

Mark­land was for­mal­ly charged on Ju­ly 4 by Woman Po­lice Con­sta­ble Mo­hammed of the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions, Re­gion II, fol­low­ing le­gal ad­vice from Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions Roger Gas­pard.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said Mark­land was ar­rest­ed on June 26 in the Mal­abar dis­trict by Cor­po­ral Mitchell of the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions af­ter in­struc­tions were re­ceived on Ju­ly 1 to pro­ceed with a mur­der charge.

The charge re­lates to the death of 45-year-old Ster­ling Fran­cois of Scal­lion Cir­cu­lar, Tre­strail Lands, D'Abadie. Fran­cois was found dead at his home on June 20.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion was su­per­vised by Act­ing As­sis­tant Su­per­in­ten­dent Vic­tor, Sergeant Rad­haykissoon and Po­lice Con­sta­ble Subi­ah (Le­gal) of the Homi­cide Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tions, Re­gion II.
