A 25-year-old Jamaican national has appeared before the Criminal Court charged with the murder of a D'Abadie man whose body was found at his home last month.
Police said Deandre Markland, of Holly Betaudier Avenue, Phase 4-2, Malabar, Arima, appeared before Master Lisa Singh-Phillip in the North A Criminal Court on Monday. The matter was adjourned to October 30 for a status hearing.
Markland was formally charged on July 4 by Woman Police Constable Mohammed of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region II, following legal advice from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard.
Investigators said Markland was arrested on June 26 in the Malabar district by Corporal Mitchell of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations after instructions were received on July 1 to proceed with a murder charge.
The charge relates to the death of 45-year-old Sterling Francois of Scallion Circular, Trestrail Lands, D'Abadie. Francois was found dead at his home on June 20.
The investigation was supervised by Acting Assistant Superintendent Victor, Sergeant Radhaykissoon and Police Constable Subiah (Legal) of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region II.
