Two people, understood to be the husband and wife of a prominent business family, were detained today after police executed court-authorised search warrants at properties in Westmoorings and Trincity.

In a media release, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the warrants were executed as part of an ongoing investigation.

The TTPS said the two individuals are assisting investigators with enquiries and stressed that no charges have been laid at this time.

"The execution of a warrant is a standard investigative procedure and does not constitute a finding of wrongdoing," the release stated.

According to the TTPS, all actions taken by officers were conducted under judicial authority and in accordance with the law, with due regard for the rights and reputational interests of those involved.

The police service also urged the public not to draw conclusions about the status of any individual while investigations remain ongoing.

The TTPS said no further details can be disclosed at this stage because the matter is active.

"The TTPS remains committed to conducting all investigations with professionalism, fairness, and respect for the rule of law," the release stated.
