Four held; ammo and weed seized

Po­lice ar­rest­ed four men and re­cov­ered am­mu­ni­tion, cannabis and a stolen ve­hi­cle dur­ing op­er­a­tions across the North­ern, North Cen­tral and North Cen­tral West di­vi­sions be­tween Sep­tem­ber 17 and 19.

In the first in­ci­dent, of­fi­cers of the North­ern North Di­vi­sion Task Force re­spond­ed to a re­port of mis­siles be­ing thrown at a house and at po­lice along Riv­er Val­ley Road, La Re­treat Road, Ari­ma, short­ly af­ter mid­night on Sep­tem­ber 18.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers ob­served rock-like ob­jects be­ing thrown from a bushy area on the east­ern side of the road­way. When they en­tered the area, they saw a 23-year-old man from Can­taro Vil­lage, San­ta Cruz, who fled.

The man was pur­sued and ar­rest­ed in an un­fin­ished struc­ture a short dis­tance away.

A search al­leged­ly re­sult­ed in the re­cov­ery of four rounds of am­mu­ni­tion. The man was tak­en to the Ari­ma Po­lice Sta­tion.

Mean­while, two men were ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with a rob­bery at a bank in Trinci­ty.

Po­lice said the vic­tim was robbed of a black hand­bag con­tain­ing $30,000 in cash, an Ap­ple Air­Pod and oth­er per­son­al items.

Act­ing on in­for­ma­tion re­ceived, of­fi­cers went to 15th Av­enue, Orop­une Gar­dens, Pi­ar­co, where they saw three men who re­port­ed­ly matched the de­scrip­tions of the sus­pects.

The men fled at high speed in­to a forest­ed area, prompt­ing a po­lice pur­suit.

Two of the men were ar­rest­ed. They were iden­ti­fied by po­lice as a 30-year-old man and a 36-year-old man, both of Agos­ti­ni Street, St Joseph.

The Arou­ca CID is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.

In an­oth­er op­er­a­tion, po­lice seized 120 grammes of cannabis dur­ing a rov­ing road check in the west­ern area of the North Cen­tral Di­vi­sion on Sep­tem­ber 18.

The op­er­a­tion was con­duct­ed be­tween 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers search­ing a ve­hi­cle no­ticed a black plas­tic bag pro­trud­ing from be­neath a white wag­on.

The bag was re­trieved and al­leged­ly con­tained two trans­par­ent bags with cannabis.

The oc­cu­pants of the ve­hi­cle were de­tained.

Sep­a­rate­ly, one man was ar­rest­ed and a stolen ve­hi­cle re­cov­ered dur­ing a V-TRAP op­er­a­tion in the Tu­na­puna and St Joseph dis­tricts.

At about 9:35 p.m. on Sep­tem­ber 18, of­fi­cers al­leged­ly saw a sil­ver B15 re­vers­ing from a dead-end street with its lights off be­fore turn­ing west on­to the East­ern Main Road, St Au­gus­tine, near Cam­pus House.

Po­lice said the rear pas­sen­ger-side tri­an­gu­lar glass was bro­ken.

When of­fi­cers at­tempt­ed to make en­quiries, the ve­hi­cle al­leged­ly sped away, re­sult­ing in a pur­suit. The ve­hi­cle sub­se­quent­ly crashed in­to a sta­tion­ary ve­hi­cle along St Au­gus­tine Cir­cu­lar Road.

The sus­pect fled in­to a bushy area lead­ing to­wards a rocky riv­er west of Cum­ber­batch Lane.

Po­lice even­tu­al­ly ar­rest­ed him on Pasea Street, St Au­gus­tine.

Checks al­leged­ly re­vealed that the ve­hi­cle's ig­ni­tion had been tam­pered with and the rear pas­sen­ger-side glass was bro­ken.

Fur­ther checks showed that the ve­hi­cle had been re­port­ed stolen from Mc In­roy Street, Curepe, on Sep­tem­ber 12.

The ve­hi­cle was tak­en to the Tu­na­puna Po­lice Sta­tion, while the sus­pect was tak­en to the Mal­oney Po­lice Sta­tion.
