Tobago teacher shot during argument

A To­ba­go woman was al­leged­ly shot by her boyfriend dur­ing an ar­gu­ment on Fri­day af­ter­noon in Bon Ac­cord.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the 44-year-old school teacher and her 37-year-old boyfriend were at her White Dri­ve res­i­dence when they got in­to a heat­ed ar­gu­ment. The con­fronta­tion re­port­ed­ly es­ca­lat­ed when a gun­shot was sud­den­ly heard.

The vic­tim felt a burn­ing sen­sa­tion in her right leg and re­alised she was bleed­ing from the wound.

She was tak­en to Scar­bor­ough Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal for treat­ment, where she re­mains ward­ed in sta­ble con­di­tion.

Snr Supt Rod­hil Kirk told Guardian Me­dia that a sus­pect was de­tained in con­nec­tion with the in­ci­dent. He said, how­ev­er, that a po­lice re­port about the in­ci­dent was not made im­me­di­ate­ly.

“That in­for­ma­tion came to us long af­ter there was a shoot­ing. We could on­ly say it’s a gun­shot un­til we get the ev­i­dence that it is a gun­shot. Un­til then, we are in­ves­ti­gat­ing an ap­par­ent (shoot­ing),” he said.

Rel­a­tives re­mained tight-lipped about the in­ci­dent when Guardian Me­dia vis­it­ed the home on Sat­ur­day, but said the vic­tim was do­ing okay. They asked that their pri­va­cy be re­spect­ed for the sake of the vic­tim and her daugh­ter.
