Tobago man, 81, robbed after leaving bank

An 81-year-old To­ba­go man was robbed and as­sault­ed af­ter with­draw­ing mon­ey from the bank on Tues­day.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the vic­tim went to Re­pub­lic Bank, Main Street, Scar­bor­ough, where he with­drew $2,500.

Af­ter leav­ing the bank, the vic­tim was walk­ing south along Cas­tries Street when a ban­dit grabbed him in a choke­hold and de­mand­ed the cash.

The as­sailant re­port­ed­ly shoved is hand in the el­der­ly man's pock­et and re­moved an en­ve­lope con­tain­ing the mon­ey he had just with­drawn. He al­so stole a Sam­sung phone be­fore walk­ing away.

PC Phillip, PC Eu­stache and WPC Richards re­spond­ed to the in­ci­dent.

Mean­while, ban­dits broke in­to Phoebe's Va­ri­ety Store in Bon Ac­cord, steal­ing tow­els, un­der­wear, per­fume, suit­cas­es and oth­er items.

The pro­pri­etor told po­lice she se­cured the store's premis­es on Mon­day af­ter­noon, but up­on re­turn­ing the fol­low­ing day, she no­ticed a store room door was tam­pered with. Po­lice processed the scene for fin­ger­prints and are ex­pect­ed to re­view CCTV footage to as­sist in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
