Two men charged after Princes Town taxi stand attack

Two men have been charged with wound­ing with in­tent fol­low­ing an al­leged cut­lass at­tack at the San Fer­nan­do Taxi Stand near High Street, Princes Town, on Au­gust 7.

Mes­si­ah Pope, 24, and Sean Rivers, 28, ap­peared be­fore Mas­ter Chinebass at the Princes Town High Court on Fri­day. Nei­ther man was called up­on to plead.

Po­lice said the vic­tim was stand­ing at the taxi stand when the two men, who were un­known to him, ap­proached him armed with cut­lass­es and struck him sev­er­al times about the body.

The vic­tim es­caped on foot and went to the Princes Town Po­lice Sta­tion, where he made a re­port. He was lat­er tak­en to a med­ical fa­cil­i­ty for treat­ment.

Fol­low­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions by PC Ram­datt, the men were charged.

Pope was re­mand­ed in­to cus­tody, while Rivers was grant­ed $85,000 bail with sure­ty.

The mat­ter was ad­journed to Sep­tem­ber 30.
