PM holds talks with high-level US delegation

Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar met with a high-lev­el Unit­ed States del­e­ga­tion on Mon­day for dis­cus­sions aimed at strength­en­ing bi­lat­er­al ties and ex­pand­ing co­op­er­a­tion in in­vest­ment, eco­nom­ic de­vel­op­ment and re­gion­al is­sues.

Ac­cord­ing to a state­ment from the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter, the meet­ing reaf­firmed the long­stand­ing re­la­tion­ship be­tween Trinidad and To­ba­go and the Unit­ed States, with talks fo­cus­ing on ar­eas of mu­tu­al in­ter­est, in­clud­ing in­vest­ment, eco­nom­ic de­vel­op­ment and re­gion­al col­lab­o­ra­tion.

Per­sad-Bisses­sar said her ad­min­is­tra­tion re­mains com­mit­ted to strength­en­ing in­ter­na­tion­al part­ner­ships that cre­ate op­por­tu­ni­ties, pro­mote eco­nom­ic growth and im­prove the qual­i­ty of life for cit­i­zens.

She al­so said Trinidad and To­ba­go and the Unit­ed States would con­tin­ue to build on a re­la­tion­ship based on mu­tu­al re­spect, shared val­ues and a shared com­mit­ment to pros­per­i­ty and de­vel­op­ment.

The Unit­ed States del­e­ga­tion in­clud­ed Bar­bara Fe­in­stein, Deputy As­sis­tant Sec­re­tary for Caribbean Af­fairs and Haiti in the Bu­reau of West­ern Hemi­sphere Af­fairs at the US De­part­ment of State; Philip Kern, Chargé d’Af­faires at the US Em­bassy in Port of Spain; Car­o­line Vik, Chief Pol­i­cy Of­fi­cer at the US In­ter­na­tion­al De­vel­op­ment Fi­nance Cor­po­ra­tion (DFC); Ryan Berg of the DFC's Of­fice of For­eign Pol­i­cy; Cather­ine Mignone from the DFC's Of­fice of the Chief Pol­i­cy Of­fi­cer; and Palo­ma Gon­za­lez, Deputy Di­rec­tor of the Of­fice of Eco­nom­ic Pol­i­cy and Sum­mit Co­or­di­na­tion at the US De­part­ment of State.
