A quantity of cannabis and ammunition was seized and one man was arrested during an intelligence-led anti-crime exercise conducted by officers of the Port-of-Spain Division overnight.
The Operation R.E.S.O.L.U.T.E. Shield exercise took place between 10 p.m. on Wednesday and 2 a.m. on Thursday in Gonzales, Belmont Valley Road, Snake Valley, Laventille Road and Perseverance Lane, Plover Street.
Police said officers acted on intelligence and carried out searches at four houses and one abandoned structure during the operation.
A search of the abandoned structure at Snake Valley, Laventille, led to the discovery of 16 rounds of apparent 9mm ammunition and 40 grammes of cannabis. The items were seized as investigations continue.
During the exercise, officers also arrested a man of Rudolph Charles Link Road, Gonzales, in connection with larceny enquiries being conducted by the Central Division.
The operation was spearheaded by Senior Superintendent Thom, Superintendent Baird, Superintendent Ramdeen, Assistant Superintendent Cadette and Inspector Durga. Thom and the senior officers coordinated the exercise, which was supervised by Sergeant Guerra.
Officers attached to the Belmont and Besson Street police stations, supported by members of the Canine Unit, participated in the operation.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service said the exercise formed part of its ongoing intelligence-led Operation R.E.S.O.L.U.T.E. Shield initiative, aimed at disrupting criminal activity, recovering illegal firearms, ammunition and drugs, and targeting persons wanted for criminal offences.
Investigations into the seizure of the ammunition and cannabis are continuing. Police have not indicated whether additional arrests are expected.
