The Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) and the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation on telecommunications policy and regulation.

The agreement was signed on June 18, 2026, and is intended to strengthen the relationship between the two regulators and increase engagement on regulatory policy.

According to TATT, the MoU establishes a non-binding framework for the exchange of ideas and information on telecommunications regulatory policy. The initiative recognises the role both organisations play in promoting telecommunications development, competitive markets, technological innovation and efforts to bridge the digital divide in their respective countries.

Under the agreement, TATT and the FCC intend to share information on telecommunications, broadcasting and related facilities and services, in keeping with their national laws, regulations, international obligations and respective mandates.

Areas identified for cooperation include spectrum management, licensing, regulatory issues, broadband connectivity, infrastructure deployment and emerging trends in telecommunications, including 5G.

Both organisations welcomed the agreement as a means of fostering institutional cooperation and mutual benefit. The MoU will remain in effect for three years.
