Two men were arrested on Sunday night after police officers intercepted a vehicle in Quarry Village, Siparia, and allegedly discovered a firearm and ammunition during a targeted operation.

According to a media release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), officers attached to the Siparia Police Station acted on intelligence and stopped a silver Nissan B15 along Thompson Trace, Quarry Village, at approximately 10:20 p.m. on Sunday.

Police said the vehicle was being driven by a 23-year-old man from Quarry Village, Siparia, while a 28-year-old man, also of Quarry Village, was seated in the front passenger seat.

During a search of the vehicle, officers reportedly found a Smith & Wesson firearm, a magazine and two rounds of 9-millimetre ammunition on the floor of the front passenger side.

The occupants were unable to provide legal documentation authorising possession of the firearm or ammunition, police said.

Both men were cautioned in accordance with the Judges’ Rules, informed of the offences and arrested. They were subsequently taken to the Siparia Police Station, where investigations are continuing.

The operation did not end with the arrests. Police said further searches were carried out at the suspects’ homes under Legal Notice No. 40 of the Emergency Powers Regulations, 2026.

During a search of the driver’s residence, officers allegedly discovered an additional 24 rounds of 9mm ammunition concealed inside a red bag behind a bedroom door.

The ammunition was seized as evidence.

The TTPS said the arrests and seizure form part of ongoing efforts to reduce the number of illegal firearms in circulation and improve public safety.

In its statement, the police service reiterated its commitment to combating gun-related crime and protecting citizens throughout the country.

The TTPS also urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement by providing information on illegal firearms and other criminal activity.
