Sea Lots man beaten to death after allegedly raping girl, 13

A Sea Lots man was beat­en and killed af­ter he al­leged­ly sex­u­al­ly as­sault­ed a 13-year-old girl ear­li­er this week.

Po­lice said the girl was tak­en to Pro­duc­tion Dri­ve, Sea Lots, to stay with a rel­a­tive on Thurs­day night.

Short­ly af­ter 9:45 pm, the girl was walk­ing to a shop to buy some­thing when she was pulled in­side the man's house, where he al­leged­ly sex­u­al­ly as­sault­ed her, be­fore al­low­ing her to leave.

Po­lice said the girl ran to her cousin, who in turn called her moth­er and re­port­ed what hap­pened.

An am­bu­lance was called in and took the child and her moth­er to the Mt Hope Pae­di­atric Hos­pi­tal.

While there, of­fi­cers of the Besson Street Po­lice Sta­tion were con­tact­ed and vis­it­ed the hos­pi­tal, where they in­ter­viewed the child in the pres­ence of her moth­er.

The girl re­port­ed­ly pos­i­tive­ly iden­ti­fied the man who raped her.

While at the hos­pi­tal, po­lice were told that the sus­pect was tak­en to the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal for in­juries sus­tained dur­ing a beat­ing from res­i­dents in the neigh­bour­hood.

Po­lice said the man sus­tained sev­er­al bro­ken bones but was in sta­ble con­di­tion.

When in­ter­viewed by po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tors, the man re­port­ed­ly told of­fi­cers:

"I ain't touch she. I was just watch­ing her."

How­ev­er, of­fi­cers re­port­ed that he was un­able to be in­ter­viewed fur­ther due to the ex­tent of his in­juries.

Sources lat­er con­firmed that the man died at the hos­pi­tal.

Of­fi­cers of the Port of Spain Spe­cial Vic­tims Unit are con­tin­u­ing en­quiries.
