Sobers in Washington for bilateral talks

For­eign and Cari­com Af­fairs Min­is­ter Sean Sobers is in Wash­ing­ton, D.C. for a se­ries of high-lev­el bi­lat­er­al meet­ings with se­nior of­fi­cials of the Unit­ed States Gov­ern­ment.

In a me­dia re­lease to­day, the Min­istry of For­eign and Cari­com Af­fairs said Sobers will hold dis­cus­sions from May 13 to 15 with of­fi­cials from the Unit­ed States De­part­ment of State, the Unit­ed States Trade Rep­re­sen­ta­tive, the De­part­ment of En­er­gy, the De­part­ment of War and the Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Coun­cil.

The min­istry said the dis­cus­sions will fo­cus on for­eign pol­i­cy, en­er­gy se­cu­ri­ty, na­tion­al se­cu­ri­ty and in­ter­na­tion­al trade.

It added that the meet­ings will build on pre­vi­ous bi­lat­er­al dis­cus­sions be­tween Trinidad and To­ba­go and the Unit­ed States led by Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar, most re­cent­ly dur­ing the Shield of Amer­i­c­as Sum­mit in Mi­a­mi in March 2026 host­ed by Unit­ed States Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump.

Ac­cord­ing to the min­istry, Sobers met se­nior of­fi­cials from the Unit­ed States De­part­ment of En­er­gy and the Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Coun­cil this morn­ing.

He is al­so ex­pect­ed to meet US Deputy Sec­re­tary of State Christo­pher Lan­dau on May 15.
