A 25-year-old Mayaro man was robbed of electronics, jewellery and cash when he visited Laventille to conduct a transaction with strangers he met through Facebook Marketplace on Monday morning.

Police said the man went to Plaisance Terrace near a primary school around 11:45 am to meet with customers when he was confronted by three bandits who demanded his valuables.

The bandits stole the man's gold chain, eight HY300 movie projectors, an Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, a gold watch and $7,000 in cash before running away.

A report was made, and police from the Besson Street Criminal Investigations Department are continuing enquiries.

Police have previously appealed to the public to avoid meeting strangers in unfamiliar neighbourhoods to conduct financial transactions.

They have repeatedly urged people to meet at police stations when conducting transactions with strangers.
