One dead, two injured in Caroni Flyover crash

A man is dead and two oth­ers are hos­pi­talised fol­low­ing a ve­hic­u­lar ac­ci­dent near the Ca­roni Fly­over dur­ing the ear­ly hours yes­ter­day.

The ac­ci­dent, which oc­curred around 6 am along the north­bound lane of the Uri­ah But­ler High­way, re­port­ed­ly in­volved four peo­ple who were re­turn­ing home from a night out.

It is yet to be de­ter­mined what caused the dri­ver to veer off the road be­fore col­lid­ing with a lamp post, the im­pact of which re­port­ed­ly caused the black Hyundai Elantra to split in two.

The ac­ci­dent claimed the life of one man, who re­mained uniden­ti­fied up to yes­ter­day, and left Re­ne­sha Joseph, of Mal­ick, Barataria, along with Ron­nie Ro­driguez, nurs­ing se­ri­ous in­juries at the hos­pi­tal.

Eye­wit­ness­es told po­lice the dri­ver of the ve­hi­cle al­leged­ly fled the scene fol­low­ing the crash.

Mo­torists who stopped to ren­der as­sis­tance con­tact­ed po­lice and Emer­gency Health Ser­vices (EHS). The in­jured per­sons were tak­en to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex, Mt Hope.

Po­lice are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions and search­ing for the dri­ver of the ve­hi­cle.
