Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar held bilateral talks with Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre on Thursday, in a meeting which comes amid ongoing scrutiny over Trinidad and Tobago’s relationship with Caricom under her administration.
Pierre, who assumes the chairmanship of CARICOM on July 1, met Persad-Bissessar during a courtesy call at the Diplomatic Centre.
According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, discussions centred on strengthening cooperation between the two countries in areas including energy, trade, tourism, health, culture and ICT development.
The leaders also discussed opportunities for regional progress within Caricom, with Persad-Bissessar extending best wishes to Pierre ahead of his tenure as chairman of the regional bloc.
