Antonia Cain-Kafi, the mother of 23-month-old Akini Kafi, who was killed after gunmen opened fire on the car he his parents were travelling in last week in Belmont, has shown slight improvement in her condition.
She was reported to be in a stable condition yesterday, although she remains warded in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (POSGH).
Cain-Kafi, 36, of Serraneau Road, Belmont, was shot multiple times on May 6, along with her son, husband Aquil Kafi and family friend Anthony Wilson.
The mass shooting along Upper St Francois Valley Road, Belmont, rocked both the community and the country, with citizens continuing to demand answers from the authorities on how they intend to address the crime situation and escalating murder rate.
Cain-Kafi had previously been listed in critical condition.
No one has yet been held in connection with the incident.
Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro on Saturday assured that all leads were being pursued, but declined to provide further details as the investigation remains ongoing.
