A man is dead and two others are hospitalised following a vehicular accident near the Caroni Flyover during the early hours yesterday.
The accident, which occurred around 6 am along the northbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, reportedly involved four people who were returning home from a night out.
It is yet to be determined what caused the driver to veer off the road before colliding with a lamp post, the impact of which reportedly caused the black Hyundai Elantra to split in two.
The accident claimed the life of one man, who remained unidentified up to yesterday, and left Renesha Joseph, of Malick, Barataria, along with Ronnie Rodriguez, nursing serious injuries at the hospital.
Eyewitnesses told police the driver of the vehicle allegedly fled the scene following the crash.
Motorists who stopped to render assistance contacted police and Emergency Health Services (EHS). The injured persons were taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope.
Police are continuing investigations and searching for the driver of the vehicle.
