The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) says it has gained full control of the ruptured transmission main near Beetham Gardens and has begun dewatering operations ahead of repairs scheduled for completion by noon tomorrow.
In an update today, WASA said emergency response teams were deployed immediately after the rupture was reported.
The authority said crews activated full emergency protocols and successfully accessed and operated valves to dewater the affected 30-inch booster line, which it described as a critical step toward carrying out safe and effective repairs.
The rupture has disrupted operations at the El Socorro Booster Station, affecting water supply to several areas, including Knaggs Hill, Picton II Reservoir, Black River, Barataria, Laventille, Port of Spain, Morvant, East Dry River, St Barbs, Gonzales, Long Circular, Dundonald Hill, Dibe, Woodbrook, St James, Cocorite, Belmont, Cascade and St Ann’s.
WASA also said the El Socorro High Lift Station remains out of operation, affecting customers along Boundary Road and Boundary Road Extension, Aranguez Main Road, El Socorro Road, Don Miguel Road and Black River.
The authority said repair materials had already been mobilised from its stores and were on the way to the job site.
WASA said repairs are expected to be completed on or before 12 noon tomorrow.
The authority added that it remained focused on restoration efforts and would continue to provide updates as work progresses.
