Six detained in municipal cop’s murder; stolen guns recovered

Six peo­ple are in cus­tody in con­nec­tion with the killing of a Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice Of­fi­cer and the theft of firearms and am­mu­ni­tion at the King's Wharf com­pound in San Fer­nan­do.

The Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice stat­ed that those de­tained in­clude two Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice Of­fi­cers, two fe­males and two males.

Of­fi­cers of the San Fer­nan­do Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment, Spe­cial Branch and Spe­cial In­ves­ti­ga­tions Unit con­duct­ed op­er­a­tions overnight. Po­lice said the ac­tions were based on in­tel­li­gence and use of tech­nol­o­gy.

Po­lice re­port­ed that firearms and am­mu­ni­tion linked to the in­ci­dent were re­cov­ered. The items in­clude 10 M&P pis­tols, 10 Glock 19 pis­tols, one Brown­ing pis­tol, one Smith and Wes­son pis­tol and 612 rounds of 9mm am­mu­ni­tion.

Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Al­lis­ter Gue­var­ro was present dur­ing op­er­a­tions in the ear­ly hours as the in­ves­ti­ga­tion con­tin­ued.The TTPS stat­ed that the in­ves­ti­ga­tion is on­go­ing. Po­lice said the mat­ter is at a stage where fur­ther de­tails are not be­ing re­leased.

The in­ci­dent re­lates to the killing of a Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice Of­fi­cer and the re­moval of firearms and am­mu­ni­tion from the com­pound.

The TTPS stat­ed that ef­forts are con­tin­u­ing to iden­ti­fy and charge those in­volved. Po­lice said up­dates will be pro­vid­ed as in­for­ma­tion be­comes avail­able.
