What’s causing the electricity fluctuations and dips?

For­mer Min­is­ter of Pub­lic Util­i­ties Mar­vin Gon­za­les is call­ing on the Min­istry of Pub­lic Util­i­ties and the Trinidad and To­ba­go Elec­tric­i­ty Com­mis­sion (T&TEC) to ex­plain what is caus­ing re­ports of elec­tric­i­ty dips and fluc­tu­a­tions across the coun­try.

Gon­za­les said the Op­po­si­tion has re­ceived nu­mer­ous com­plaints from cit­i­zens who have ex­pe­ri­enced fluc­tu­a­tions in their elec­tric­i­ty sup­ply over the past sev­er­al days and weeks.

He said the is­sue was par­tic­u­lar­ly con­cern­ing be­cause of the po­ten­tial dam­age to house­hold ap­pli­ances and oth­er elec­tri­cal equip­ment.

Gon­za­les said many cit­i­zens were al­ready fac­ing fi­nan­cial pres­sures and could ill af­ford the cost of re­pair­ing or re­plac­ing ap­pli­ances dam­aged by fluc­tu­a­tions in the elec­tric­i­ty sup­ply.

He is call­ing on T&TEC and the Gov­ern­ment to ex­plain the cause of the re­port­ed fluc­tu­a­tions and out­line the steps be­ing tak­en to ad­dress the prob­lem.

Gon­za­les said the pub­lic de­serves a re­li­able elec­tric­i­ty sup­ply and greater clar­i­ty on the is­sues af­fect­ing it.
