A firearm reportedly stolen from a police officer during a robbery at Pigeon Point last week was found on a man shot and killed by police in Patience Hill, Tobago, on Wednesday night.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said the Sig Sauer pistol, which bore police markings and was fitted with a magazine, was found concealed in the waistband of Hasani Bobb’s trousers.
Bobb, also known as “Hman” and “Sanni”, of Yorke Trace, Patience Hill, died at the Scarborough General Hospital after being shot during an anti-crime operation along Orange Hill Road around 8.15 pm.
According to a TTPS media release issued on Thursday, officers of the Tobago Division Gang Intelligence Unit and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Team/Special Investigations Unit were acting on intelligence when they went to the area.
They observed a white Nissan Tiida without registration plates parked along the roadway, with Bobb inside.
The police said that as officers approached the vehicle, Bobb allegedly pointed an object resembling a firearm in their direction, prompting them to discharge their service-issued weapons.
When officers approached the injured man to render assistance, they observed what appeared to be a chrome revolver with a wooden handle in his hand. The object was removed, and a search was conducted, during which the Sig Sauer pistol was reportedly found.
The TTPS said the firearm had been taken from a police officer during a robbery at Pigeon Point on October 22.
No police officers were injured during the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting are under investigation, with the TTPS saying an investigator would be appointed to examine the incident.
