Traffic Warden PBR Compliance Unit launched

The Min­istry of Trans­port and Civ­il Avi­a­tion has launched the Traf­fic War­den Pri­or­i­ty Bus Route Com­pli­ance Unit to strength­en en­force­ment and im­prove traf­fic man­age­ment along the Pri­or­i­ty Bus Route.

The Unit was in­au­gu­rat­ed by Min­is­ter of Trans­port and Civ­il Avi­a­tion Eli Za­k­our dur­ing a cer­e­mo­ny at the Min­istry’s Head Of­fice in Port of Spain. He an­nounced that the Unit will be­gin full op­er­a­tions on Mon­day.

In his fea­ture ad­dress, Min­is­ter Za­k­our out­lined the Min­istry’s pri­or­i­ties for the Pri­or­i­ty Bus Route, not­ing the need for con­sis­tent en­force­ment and op­er­a­tional ef­fi­cien­cy. He said the Unit will pro­vide ded­i­cat­ed on-the-ground mon­i­tor­ing and traf­fic man­age­ment at key points along the route, sup­port­ing over­sight and tran­sit op­er­a­tions.

Per­ma­nent Sec­re­tary Nico­lette Duke, Chief Traf­fic War­den Neville Sankar, se­nior Min­istry of­fi­cials and mem­bers of the new Unit at­tend­ed the launch. Per­ma­nent Sec­re­tary Duke reaf­firmed the role of Traf­fic War­dens in main­tain­ing or­der on road­ways and said the Min­istry sup­ports the Unit as it un­der­takes its du­ties.

The Pri­or­i­ty Bus Route Com­pli­ance Unit will work with en­force­ment agen­cies to con­duct dai­ly mon­i­tor­ing and en­sure ac­cess re­mains lim­it­ed to au­tho­rised ve­hi­cles. The Unit will re­in­force ad­her­ence to traf­fic reg­u­la­tions and strength­en com­pli­ance along the route.

The ini­tia­tive is part of the Min­istry’s wider pro­gramme to im­prove the na­tion­al trans­porta­tion sys­tem.
