Sea Lots man shot after confrontation with cops

A 27-year-old Sea Lots man is be­ing treat­ed for gun­shot wounds af­ter he al­leged­ly point­ed a pis­tol at po­lice on pa­trol on Mon­day morn­ing.

Po­lice said of­fi­cers of the CID/ CRO of­fice re­ceived in­for­ma­tion that sev­er­al men were seen walk­ing with guns around Pi­o­neer Dri­ve, Sea Lots, at around 11.54 am.

Of­fi­cers went to the scene in an un­marked ve­hi­cle when they drove on­to a part of Sea Lots com­mon­ly known as 'Mag­num' near the Bain Docks.

While there, the re­spond­ing of­fi­cers re­port­ed that they saw a shirt­less man in a pair of short pants us­ing what ap­peared to be a walkie talkie.

The of­fi­cers con­tin­ued to pa­trol Pi­o­neer Dri­ve, but did not see any­thing sus­pi­cious.

As they re­turned to Mag­num to leave the area, they no­ticed the same man from ear­li­er bran­dish­ing a pis­tol.

One of the of­fi­cers iden­ti­fied him­self as a po­lice­man by show­ing his badge as two gun­shots were heard.

The of­fi­cer pulled out his pis­tol and shot the man in the right side of his neck.

Of­fi­cers of the In­ter-Agency Task Force (IATF), the Guard and Emer­gency Branch (GEB) and the Besson Street Po­lice Sta­tion vis­it­ed the scene and took the wound­ed man to hos­pi­tal where he re­mained up to Tues­day morn­ing.

Po­lice seized a Glock 19 pis­tol with an ex­tend­ed mag­a­zine con­tain­ing 17 rounds of 9 mm am­mu­ni­tion, be­lieved to have been used by the wound­ed man.

Crime Scene In­ves­ti­ga­tors al­so vis­it­ed the scene and found four spent 9 mm shells.

The wound­ed man, po­lice said is em­ployed as a se­cu­ri­ty of­fi­cer.
